THE large crowd had their eyes on females at the Peabody Energy 23rd Mudgee Angus Breeders sale on April 23, bidding up to a top of $4000 for cows with calves and $2900 for pregnancy tested in calf heifers. Steers sold from $1500 to $1800. McDonald Lawson Pty Ltd auctioneer Bill Lawson, Mudgee, said the good prices reflected the very good quality of the offering. “The $4000 cow/calf units were first calvers and three-in-ones – all PTIC back in-calf, three-in-ones which we are not seeing much of at present as people aren’t offering three-in-ones, but mostly cows with little calves and choosing to split to take advantage of the current good markets,” Mr Lawson. said.
